CDC Vector-Borne Infectious Disease Lab
Project Details: Ground up construction of four-floor building with offices, Biosafety Level 2 and Level 3 labs with full floor interstitial space between lab floors, a special vivarium for observation and research of animals, and insectaries for keeping, breeding, and studying live insects.
Project consisted of major gear package with close transition paralleling gear, and emergency generators. The building is designed to expand research and improve safety in a work environment for up to 55 scientists and support staff, while blending into the natural surroundings.
The insectaries require state-of-the-art separation between insects and animals, while allowing scientists to work with the fleas, ticks and mosquitoes they are studying.
