Location: Colorado’s I-70 Mountain Corridor

Description: Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) $72M Eastbound I-70 Mountain Express Lanes Project, which was designed to improve travel and relieve traffic congestion along Colorado’s I-70 Mountain Corridor. Known as Colorado’s Gateway to Play, I-70 serves as the main traffic artery for several of Colorado’s most desirable travel destinations, such as ski resorts, camping destinations, and national parks.

A 13-mile stretch of I-70 was widened to accommodate a new Mountain Express Lane to be used as a third travel lane during peak travel periods.

Our crews installed an active traffic management system composed of electronic signage, various sensors, tolling systems, ramp metering, new roadway lighting and additional electrical services located throughout the entire 13-mile corridor.

Mountain Corridor Constructors, LLC, a partnership led by AECOM and supported by Lawrence Construction Company, served as the CM/GC for the project. AECOM’s senior safety manager recognized Sturgeon Electric for having an excellent safety program that all project members, including those from AECOM -should learn from.
